How to get high-end appliances with factory warranties at up to 70% off

In no particular order

1)    Outlet stores:  Every single major appliance retailer has product that for whatever reason they want to get rid of. It could be they closed a store, or it’s got a tiny dent on the side, or it’s last years model, it could be it was simply returned and now legally they can’t sell it as new even though there are zero problems with the unit. Each of these retailers may employ a different method of moving this product.

Some use outlet stores. Pacific Sales used to have an outlet store in Torrance, now, all of this product is in each individual store. Sears uses outlet stores. Some of you might turn up your nose at Sears, but you can find $10,000 built-in KitchenAid refrigerators at half off. There are also companies in Southern California who specialize in taking this product from retailers, or from the manufacturers themselves, repairing the units to manufacturer specifications, and then reselling the units at a significant discount, and it still includes the manufacturer’s factory warranty

And this isn’t just for lower end brands, this also includes KitchenAid, Jenn Air, Viking, Wolf, Bosh, Thermador etc. Something you may not know is the appliance industry is dominated by just a handful of players who own most everything else. Whirlpool, Electrolux, and Bosch for example. Whirlpool owns Maytag, KitchenAid and JennAir (and others), Electrolux owns Frigidaire, Bosch owns Thermador and Gaggenau.

True story, I bought a top of the line KitcheAid French door refrigerator that normally sells for $4,100, and paid $1700. That’s 40 cents on the dollar. An instant savings of over $2600 after tax. The problem with the refrigerator? It had a broken shelf. And when I paid for it, the sales person ordered me a new one for free and had it shipped to my house.

2)    Relationships: Get to know the local sales manager who handles the appliances at whatever you’re biggest retailer is. Maybe that’s a Pacific Sales in the Best Buy, maybe that’s a Pacific Sales, or Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, or maybe it’s a smaller group. But regardless get to know these people, buy products from them, treat them well and they’ll be happy to give you good deals. When you go to store, tell them that you’re looking for a deal. Ask them if they have a floor model they can sell, or an open box. Know what you are looking for ahead of time, and be pleasant to work with. Again these are brand-new, often have no cosmetic or mechanical issues, are going to have a significant discount, and still come with full factory warranty.

3)    Craigslist & EBay: You might think it sounds crazy but you can find a really great, even very high-end appliances in perfect working order, new, with full warranties on Craigslist and eBay. It’s not unusual for local appliance retailers, especially smaller more high-end specialty stores, to take their closeouts, floor models, and returns and market them on craigslist or eBay. In item number two I recommended you know your local people, but it’s impossible to know everyone. By looking on craigslist and eBay you’re spreading out your search area. I’ve gotten $2,000 Viking cooktops at 40% off and $5,500 American Ranges at 70% off.
